Timing Belts vs. Timing Chain

In our opinion, the timing belt design for overhead valve arrangement is the superior method. Timing belts have less stretch and are therefore more accurate. They are tough and reliable. Recommended replacement interval is between 90k and 110k.

Expect to replace all components related to the timing belt arrangement. These items are usually the water pump, tensioners and idler pulleys. A component is the number 1 reason for failure, not the timing belt itself.

In an industry-wide attempt to bring down maintenance cost over the life of a vehicle, chains have become more prevalent. Chains have more moving parts; failure of any one of these components is expensive to repair. Lubrication for all motor designs is important, but for chain motors it is critical for long life.
